Please complete the information and return with the $ 25.00 fee in the enclosed envelope. The telephone numbers will not be published, but used in those instances where you need to be contacted by The Lake Association concerning your cabin, boat, association business, etc. All U.S. Postal mail from the Lake Association will be sent to the address you list. Please keep this address current. If there is more than one owner for a lake house, you may provide another newsletter mailing address, or receive the newsletter via email. Only members whose dues are current are allowed to vote in meetings and elections. The executive board has strived to use the Internet and email to increase awareness of current news and disseminate more information to the membership. Many documents, that were previously available only at city hall for a fee, are now available on the web site cgclakeassoc.org. The Association email list disseminates current information directly to over 150 email addresses and reaches many non- email members through neighbors and friends. If you wish to receive email updates concerning current lake news, send your email address to mailto:cglakeassoc@ yahoo.com Governance and Legal UpdateSeveral of us have been very busy during the "off season" working on both legal and political issues. Significant progress has been made on this important issue. The next meeting of the Mayor- chaired special commission will be on February 18th. Our attorney’s DRAFT of a proposal will be presented. Expect to receive an email copy of the same DRAFT proposal about the same time. The draft proposal will meet our needs and hopefully will provide the city with the assurances they have requested. This past fall the Lake Association raised approximately $26,000 for our legal fund. The leadership would like to thank all of you who made a financial contribution to this effort. These resources have been valuable in our research to create governance and ownership options. Our attorney, Bill Frost, has researched and recently drafted an easement and governance proposal for the special commission to consider. The legal fund also gives us a valuable resource in the unfortunate case that legal action is to become necessary. Caretaker Resigns Related to the governance issue, our caretaker, Kevin Rikli has resigned effective February 15th. He has done a great job of improving safety on the roads and water. Kevin also completed several maintenance projects that have been long- standing issues. You might make it a point to stop and say thank you to Kevin, we are going to miss him. Kevin was with us for about 9 months, the three previous caretakers stayed on the job less than two months! We feel the city's apparent inability to retain a quality caretaker is an issue that needs to be addressed. March Meetings Mark March 9th and 10th on your calendar. The city’s mandatory "Chemical Class" will be 7:30 pm on Friday the 9th at the courthouse, and the Lake Association meeting at 9:00am on Saturday the 10th. Lawn Care Management (Chemical Class) The next Lawn Care Management Class will be Friday, March 9 Th, 7:30 pm at the Morris County Court House meeting room, lower level(use the back door). You must have a reservation to attend the class. Reservations can be made by calling the extension office 620 767 5136 by 5 pm March 5th. The office has an answering machine so you may call after office hours. Be sure to leave a contact number. The $10.00 registration fee can be paid at the beginning of the class. A certificate of completion is a requirement to use chemicals at the lake, (herbicides, pesticides, fertilizer; etc). The certificate is valid for two years from the class completion date. More details are available in the city ordinance section at the web site http://www.cgclakeassoc.org/ The City Ordinance detailing the City’s' requirement is also attached in pdf format. Due to scheduling restrictions beyond our control this may be the only class available this year. Please mark this date on your calendar! Political Awareness and Action The Lake Association leadership feels that the voting strength of the Council Grove City Lake Home Owners is often “undervalued.” We believe that lake homeowners need to recognize their voting strength and work to maximize their influence with local elected officials. We have been studying various voting blocks and the potential impact we could have on both county and city elections. Expect information soon about this potential and the role you can play in the process. In addition, plans are in progress to invite the city council and mayor candidates to speak at the March 10 Lake Association meeting. Farewell for Kevin A farewell reception for Caretaker Kevin Rikli is planned for 5:00pm on February 15, at the Hays House. Lake Homeowners , Council Grove residents, city employees, and city council members are cordially invited. Stop by to say farewell to Kevin and enjoy refreshments. |
