APRIL NEWSLETTER Email cglakeassoc@yahoo.com Web Site: cgclakeassoc.org Master Plan At the April 8th meeting Dr. Curt Brungardt presented the Council Grove City Lake Association’s Master Plan to the membership. There were a few minor changes as a result of suggestions after the presentation of the draft plan at the February community forum meeting, and posting the draft on the web site. The final Master Plan in its entirety is available on the web site http://www.cgclakeassoc.org. A summary brochure of the plan is available and will be mailed to Lake homeowners soon. In addition to highlighting the major initiatives of the plan, Curt explained that lake residents will need to volunteer their time and efforts to help implement the 32 initiatives in the plan.. The purpose of the plan is to serve as a guide for future lake improvements and communicate the desires of the majority of the homeowners at the lake. The final plan is the result of comprehensive surveys and several open meetings to collect information and validate that the plan represents the majority of the homeowners. The Master plan will be presented to the city council on April 24 th 5:30pm at city hall. All lake homeowners are encouraged to attend. The plan will be presented to the county commissioners at their regular meeting on April 25 th. Lake Entrance Signs Several responses to the Master Plan Survey suggested that the entrance signs to the City Lake be upgraded as part of the beautification plan. Bill and Jane Swofford have developed a comprehensive plan to refinish the signs and make plantings in front of the signs. Their plan includes scheduled maintenance of the plants. If you would like to assist in the actual planting, or be part of the maintenance program, please email us at cglakeassoc@yahoo.com. Fourth of July CelebrationChristie Brungardt is the coordinator for the Lake Fourth of July Celebration. We hope to expand the lake celebration this year .If you have new ideas or would like to help with the events please email Christie at cjbrunga@fhsu.edu. Volunteers needed:Wa-Shun-Gah Days Parade During the “off season” the Executive Board necessarily had to deal with the annexation issue and the resulting Master Plan. We have come to realize that our Bylaws were developed for more of a “picnic club” than for an organization that conducts business. As we have met with other lake associations and groups that represent home owners on lakes similar to ours, we have realized that in order to effectively deal with dynamic issues, we need to revise our By laws to allow our representatives more latitude to respond in a timely manner to time sensitive issues, such as annexation when dealing with other entities such as the city. We need a committee comprised of people who represent the core of the Lake Association to research this issue, look at the bylaws of other lakes and make a recommendation to the membership before the annual meeting in June so any changes can be voted on by the full membership. If you would like to help with the research, and participate in this process email us at cglakeassoc@yahoo.com or call one of the contact phone numbers in the heading of this news letter. Walleye Stocking The Community Fisheries Assistance Program is beginning to show benefits. Last fall the KWDP stocked channel cat in the lake. On the 14 th of April KDWP stocked 450,000 walleye fry in the lake. We are looking forward to providing an organized volunteer effort to improve the lake and move toward credit for money, grants and more benefits. Cabin Signs Please make an effort to post your section and lot number where it is visible from the road and the water. A significant number of EMTs are not local, but contract help from out of town and are not familiar with the lake. Not only are proper signs a city ordinance, they could save a life! We are working with the city to make the ordinance more practical. Lake Association Effectiveness We have experienced some significant changes in the activity and effectiveness of the Lake Association in the past year. The strength of the Master Plan and the Lake Association is only as strong as the participation and dedication of the individuals that it represents. If we want a voice in the management of the lake, and how that management affects our investments and quality of life at the lake, each individual must be involved in some capacity. Whether it’s a parade float or managing a major initiative of the Master Plan our success is dependent on you! Business Directory A new business directory is being compiled. It will be in each monthly mailing beginning next month |
