Minutes Council Grove Lake Association
(printable view)

June 9, 2007

56 in attendance
Chairman Dave Baker introduced and welcomed City Councilman Steve Shepard and City Administrator Danny Matthews
The minutes of the May meeting were approved as distributed.
The May treasures report is attached.

Chairman’s Report: Establishment of the Mayors Special Commission has helped the Lake Association move toward realization of the goals of permanent financing for purchase of lake properties, reaching a final solution for governance and financial stability. Dave stressed we must continue to work with the city to achieve these goals.

Committee reports: Andy Hutter reported that after he and Vern Hay met with Danny Matthews he is satisfied that the City lake 2006 income/expense report the city filed with the county are valid. These figures show the lake gaining $75,876.75 for the city, a huge swing from the $18,738 loss former Mayor Montgomery projections showed to justify his “Annex the lake” proposal.

Mayors Special Commission: Dave Fritchen gave a history and background of the formation of the special commission and an overview of the options studied by the commission. The “Permanent Easement” option was unanimously accepted by the commission with one abstention, and presented to the city council just prior to election of a new mayor and council members. Dave stated that although the timing might not have been good, it is now time for the city council to move on the proposal.

Master PlanReview: Curt Brungardt highlighted the points of progress made in the past two years and gave the city credit for helping make improvements. He gave a big “thank you” to the Special Commission for all the work they have done. Great progress has been made in communication with the city and county. Other points include: An informal inspection of the dam and resulting repairs to spillway and dam overgrowth removed; old dump cleaned up; no littering signs and trash cans; Roads 1200 and 1300 in preliminary stages of research toward improvements; road safety improved with addition of culvert and widening; increased attended chemical class attendance 75; CFAP surveying and fish stocking the lake; Dr Brungardt offered to present the report to the city council.

July 4 th Celebration: Dave Baker encouraged everyone to attend the Riverwalk celebration on June 30 th which begins at 6:30 with food and entertainment and the fireworks show. Christie Brungardt had registration forms for the Boat Regatta and Lake Front decorating contest which will be held on July 3 rd. Information and registration forms are also on the website.

Wah Shun Gah Days Parade: George Forrester reported the Lake Association will have three entries including a contvertible transporting Lake Association founder, Wayne Criser.

New Business: Election of officers. There were no nominations from the floor. The slate of officers as presented by the nominating committee was unanimously elected. The new officers are: Chairman: Curt Brungardt, Vice Chairman: Joyce Hutter, Secretary: Fred Vance, Treasurer: LuAnn Fuller.

Outgoing officers were recognized and thanked. Each was given a windshirt with a City Lake insignia on it.

Polo Shirts: Joyce Hutter announced polo shirts are available to purchase for $22.00. You may send a note with your size and check for $22.00 to the Lake Association-P.O. Box 13, Council Grove-66846.

Meeting adjorned. Andy Hutter, Secretary
