Dave introduced our new Caretaker/Lake Patrol Kevin Rikli, and thanked him for his maintenance work and interest in the safety of the water and roads. Kevin made it clear that he is glad to be here and thanked the lake homeowners for their support.
Dr. Brungardt reviewed progress in implementing the Master plan.
Three members of the Association attended a Morris County Commission meeting to ask about our request for a preliminary study for hard surfacing roads that access the lake from the south. The Commission did not budget funds for the requested study, but agreed to have one of the engineering firms they regularly use look into the matter.
Our initiative for a study of dam maintenance requirements is progressing quite well. Kevin Rikli related the US Army Corp of Engineers will conduct a courtesy inspection on September 17 th.
The Associations request to replace the public boat dock in A section was removed from the 2007 budget. The safety of the dock is a major concern to the Association. Dr Brungardt said we will keep moving on the issue to find a viable solution.
A lengthy discussion took place concerning the special commission charged with finding and recommending a consensus regarding long term financial stability and governance issues.
Dr Brungardt reemphasized that the purpose of the commission is to find a consensus that everyone can live with and move forward. He also emphasized that persistence is important. We must continue to be active both politically and legally.
Mayor Montgomery took an active role in the discussion speaking both as a lake cabin owner and as the Mayor. He said the city must expand it’s tax base, not just at the lake, but other areas as well. He pointed out that the lake association is active and the only organized political entity in the community, and, as a result, would be well represented if annexed.
After much discussion about city annexation and the Lake Associations’ proposal to transfer ownership of the lots and commons land, the discussion turned to publicizing our proposal to the public. The leadership related that after much debate they had decided to let the special commission do its work, unhindered by publicity. Most of the members present favored taking our proposal to the public, especially the people of Council Grove, so all would know first had what economic value each proposal has for them.
On a motion by Jim Ransom, the membership unanimously ask the leadership to publicize our proposal if it appeared the commission was not making satisfactory progress.
Meeting adjourned, Andy Hutter, Secretary
