Minutes Council Grove Lake Association
April 14, 2007

President Dave Baker introduced and welcomed City Councilman Steve Shepard.
The minutes of the June meeting were approved as distributed.

Presidents Report:

President Dave Baker announced that Council persons Steve Shepard and Anita Thomas are the new City Council Lake Committee.

Dave reported that the compromise recommendation of the Mayors Special Lake Commission had been presented to the City Council, and the essentially “the ball is in their court.” The minutes of the March 26, City Council meeting indicate the matter was tabled until the April 23 rd City Council meeting.

Councilman Steve Shepard spoke briefly saying that understands the needs of the lake residents and is willing to approach issues with an open mind. Also that he realizes that the people who live at the lake care more about the lake than anyone else. Regarding the results of the mayors special commission he related that he thinks the first step is to survey and plat the lot boundaries. Steve also said one of his objectives is to improve the community areas.

Committee Reports:

Mayor’s Special Lake Commission: President Dave Baker and Master Plan Facilitator Dr Curt Brungardt spoke briefly saying that the commissions’ compromise plan had been presented to the City Council and that Lake Association attorney Bill Frost had spoken at the City Council meeting and answered questions.

Nominating Committee: Diane Bolton is chair person of the nominating committee for the June election of officers. The incumbents feel that a new slate of officers would broaden and help to revitalize the leadership. Volunteers for officer positions are welcome.

Council Grove Business Exposition: Vern Hay reported the Lake Association Booth at the Council Grove Business Expo was ably manned by seven volunteers and the distributed information was well received by the public.

Green Thumb: Jane Swofford reported that plans are underway for plantings around the lake entrance signs and a generous donation from Helen and Warren Beavers has greatly facilitated the project.

New Business:

Wa-Shun-Gah Days Participation: There was discussion about the Lake Association participating in the celebration, possibly with a parade float or multiple floats.

Neighborhood Network: The concept of cove or neighbor networks was discussed, as a way to improve and grow relationships in neighborhoods.

Independence Day Celebration: The Council Grove celebration with fireworks will be June 30 th.
Dates for the Regatta were discussed.
